David, Caleb and Quinn, Dana Point
A sweet little moment of David with his boys from their session at Pines Park in Dana Point.
I photographed the boys here last year and it reminded me how quickly time has flown since that time and just how much the boys have changed in a year.

Sand fight!
Today was a busy day for being at the beach.
In the early morning I met Barry and Mari for a portrait at Salt Creek. The weather was misty and cool and made for incredible light. I know they’ll love their photographs.
Then later in the day I headed to Huntington Beach for a portrait session of Melissa and Wes’ boys. They had a fantastic time and after the first few minutes they became unaware of me for the most part and just had a late afternoon playdate.
Then I headed down to the Huntington Beach Pier where the sunny afternoon made for a festive atmosphere with live music all around and even a dancer that kind of reminded me of Napolean Dynamite’s dance move. Not *quite* the same, but made me smile anyway.
In the process of being there near sunset I saw this very cool sand fight from above, photographing from the pier.

Pink Pirate Attack…
Kate, sporting her eye patch that she had to wear all day today (last night some bark got into her eye, she apparently rubbed the eye and in the process scratched her cornea. Taking her to the Kids Doc at Mission we were able to get her treated and she was cleared to play) doesn’t let that stop her from being on the ball as they played this morning at Wagsdale Park.
It was a tough game for her team, but I think they all still had fun.
We had fun watching them run up and down the field and Kate’s brother sat in his car the whole time without a fuss.

Caught…
Since he’s been mobile, the Spark has been getting more and more bold.
He climbs down into the studio and then he proceeds to open the file drawer and then he pulls out folders and out come the papers and all over the floor.
This afternoon though he thought he could get away with it, as we were talking with Dan Milnor (of smogranch.com fame) who was down to do some interviews for a project we’re working on.
But he was caught just before he could get his little hands on the folders and create some havoc.
I love this little guy. Just about everything he does these days cracks me up. Including this.

Mossimo…
A very cool young guy, who loves his Darth Vadar outfit (sporting the cape here) and the lightsaber at his home in the OC.

Wheels…
Every one year old, it seems, gets one of these little buggies on their first birthday.
Kate had hers and that little pink car got a ton of use during that second year.
Now, big sis pushes her baby brother in his styling ride, which now looks much more like a baby Escalade (how very OC!) minus the spinning rims, no lift package and certainly no hydraulics (but a boy can dream!).
And like every young boy with his first car, he looks positively chuffed to his knickers (a South African expression, sorry).

The Birthday Boy…
Waiting to devour his cupcake, the Spark gets a gentle touch from his big sis.
Today we had a fairly quiet little birthday to celebrate his first.
I just don’t have a clue where this past year has gone.
Part of it has been a blur as we busily go from one activity to the next for Kate (as of now).
Or keeping very busy with the portraits for KOOC (both the end of last year and throughout this year).
Even so, I just can’t imagine that a whole 365 days have passed and now my little baby is not that. Not by a long shot.
He’s a walking, talking, eating, throwing, banging, bruiser.
And I couldn’t be more proud of him (and Kate too).

First year well check…
Sparky gets his first year check up with Dr. Eric Ball at SOCPA this afternoon.
Of course he just couldn’t sit there quietly while waiting for the exam. Instead, he tore up the paper used to protect the exam table and then proceeded to twist and turn the blinds.
Luckily they were Sparky-proof.
All is well, he’s doing just fine and now that he’s walking, he’s a one (little) man wrecking crew.

Bubbles at the end of the day…
After a hectic day of AYSO photo day, then a trip up to visit family in Huntington Beach (Boris and Doff), Kate blew bubbles while Sparky wandered in the front yard this evening.

Kate and Rhiannon playing “Braveheart”…
Well, not really. I’m certain she probably think she looks more like Sully from Monsters, Inc. than she does Mel Gibson, and that’s okay.
This afternoon Kate and her neighbor just didn’t want their play date to end.
First they spent time at noon for their first AYSO soccer match (they’re on the Pink Butterflies) where they just had a great time (“I want to do that again”, Kate said, as she looked at the images I made from the game (all made on a long telephoto lens), and then a few hours later they gathered at the Gazebo, right around the corner and played until dinner time.
They play nicely and with the exception of one little spat, had a perfect afternoon.
Tomorrow: AYSO team photos (hmmm…maybe will be the photo of the day for this blog).
